Hey fossil fans! Mason here—founder of Dino Fossil Fashion, part-time paleo kid, full-time dino nerd.
This school holidays, my family and I headed up to Richmond, Queensland—home of Kronosaurus Korner and some of the best fossil digs in Australia. And guess what I found? Not a bone. Not a tooth.
A massive, fossilised poo. Yup. 💩 A real-life coprolite.
Wait… What Even Is a Coprolite?
Coprolites are fossilised dino droppings. Over millions of years, they harden and turn into stone—kind of like nature’s time capsule. This one was probably dropped (literally) by a Kronosaurus, one of Australia’s top marine predators back in the Cretaceous.
Scientists use coprolites to figure out what ancient animals ate and what life was like millions of years ago. It’s not just poop—it’s prehistoric evidence.
Shout-Out to Kronosaurus Korner
The team at Kronosaurus Korner shared my find on their Facebook page! They called it a “colossal coprolite” and said it was a fantastic discovery, and something they will send off to get scanned.
Even cooler—they wondered if part of what I found could include preserved gut contents. I know… gross AND amazing.
Will It Inspire a New Shirt?
Honestly… probably not.
As much as I love dinos, I think we’ll leave the 💩 off the shirts for now 😅But this trip gave me heaps of new ideas, and I’ve already started sketching some new designs based on other fossils I saw on the dig, check out my Instagram page for updates and Tags
Dig It Yourself
If you ever get the chance to visit Richmond, go! Kronosaurus Korner runs amazing digs where you can uncover fossils with real tools, real dirt, and real adventure.
From the Dirt to the Design Table
I might’ve found poop this time, but my two-week trips inspire T-shirts featuring Australian dinosaurs, fossils, and extinct creatures you don’t see on every gift shop rack, think "Elasmoasaur" and "Jaws and Teeth"
Thanks for reading – and stay curious!
